Who Can Apply

Elementary Secondary Program

To be eligible for Avataq’s program of financial aid for elementary secondary studies, the candidate must fulfill the four following conditions:

Kahnawake Band

You are a member of the Kahnawake Band


 Resident of the Kahnawake

You are a resident of the Kahnawake Reserve

Be enrolled

Your child is enrolled in elementary or secondary school

Be registered

You are an Indian and registered with the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development

Post Secondary Program

To be eligible for Avataq’s program of financial aid for post-secondary studies, the candidate must fulfill the four following conditions:



Be registered

Be registered in the Indian Register of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada

Be part of a community

Be a member of a community or native band for which Avataq Cultural Institute is financially responsible

Be enrolled

Be enrolled at an institution whose degree is recognized in Canada by a province or territory

Be enrolled

Be enrolled in a post-secondary program lasting a minimum of eight months at a recognized educational institution, and leading to a certificate or a diploma

Communities eligible to Avataq financial Assistance Program for Post Secondary studies are the following:

  • Kahnawake
  • Cree
  • Barriere Lake
